why do some people pop their cigarettes where the filter meets the tobacco?


i see some people pop the cigarette where the filter and tobacco meet. they don't actually break the filter off they just pop it on the inside

There are some ciggs being made now that release menthol if you crush the filter...I assume that's what you are talking about (see source link). If not, I am unsure what you mean by "pop it on the inside"

What is the best type of laptop to purchase?


I currently use a MacBook. I am very used to it.

But I am looking into buying a new one. I am not sure whether to go with a Mac or other brand.

The features I would like -
-fast
-internal wireless compatibility
-built in webcam
-built in camera (Photo booth in my Mac)
-built in microphone
-printer (wireless if cost effective)

I do not know anything about computers.

Also -
Where is the best place to purchase one and how much do they usually cost?

*I am not interested in one on eBay*

Your first poster above me doesn't know what she is saying. PC are cheaper, and run everything just as fast , if not faster than a Mac. I repair them enough to know the difference.
Get an Acer aspire. It has all the features you mentioned and the webcam quality is awesome and built in the screen. The mike is super sensitive and not noisy either.
If you love to play games, it can handle Simcity 4 which is a memory hogger., Not so with the ACER. it has an ATI video card, and is very sturdy and reliable. Dont buy toshiba. They are true garbage.
you might want to look at Compaq as well.

I suggest ACER Aspire for $600. It is worth every dollar and you will not nave all these issues about windows etcc because it comes with Vista which makes your system rock solid, and almost crash proof.

my USB MIDI cable has just been delievered and on the back it says that once everything is plugged in to 'open your music software program e.g cubase, sonar, MIDI connections etc'.. when i bought it i was never told you needed software, casn i not use it until i get software?

3.5mm microphone into canon 60d. Any ideas?


I do video reviews using my canon 60d. I sometimes get a bit of an echo from the walls when I'm in front of the camera and stood a few feet away. I considered the trust shotgun mic but it's a bit expensive for what I need it for.

What i was thinking of doing is getting a cheapish mic and mounting it on a tripod out of shot. Something like this:

Would that give me much improved sound quality?

Lavalier microphone. Don;t stand in corners or against walls.

Set manual record level on cam first. Do playback to hear rec quality.

Mic as close to source as possible (t-shirt collar, shirt 2nd top button etc.

Hide the cable under the garment.

Stupid question probably, but I need help please- microphone question?


Ok so how does a microphone sound system work, what I mean is I'm starting up a band and we have a microphone for vocals obviously but what is needed, a mixer or an amp or something for the sound? Please help, sorry but I'm just not sure on it all. Thanks guys!

Just like your instruments, the mic needs to be amplified. For practice in your garage, you might get away with plugging a mic into a guitar amp....it's often done but far from ideal. The correct way to do it is with a PA system.

The simplest (and least expensive) PA systems are powered mixers with a couple speakers attached. The mixer allows you to hook up more than one mic, and has separate volume and EQ for each mic. They often have built-in effects like reverb and delay. With a powered mixer, you don't need a separate power amp. I practice with a "fun" band that is on a pretty low budget and we just bought one of these: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Kustom-KPM7250T-200W-7Channel-Powered-Mixer?sku=630545#used You could run it through speakers like these: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Kustom-KPC15-15-PA-Speaker-Cabinet-Pair?sku=600548 The speakers will be off to the side of the stage, in front of the mics so that feedback is reduced. To hear yourself better, you pretty much need to have some monitor speakers facing you, but at a low enough volume that they don't feed back into the mics.

I want to emphasize that the above components are bottom of the line....really underpowered except for small venues....but they'll work for someone on a budget. If you want a system that'll be suitable for larger and louder venues, you really have to spend quite a bit more.

So you see, a good sound system can run into thousands of dollars quite quickly. Sometimes the most economic thing to do is to check out craigslist for used speakers. There are a lot of older large and heavy ones that go cheap.....as we age, musicians get smarter and look for easy to carry equipment and the old heavy stuff goes cheap.

What does a very simple PA system consist of?


I've looked them up and for some reason every site has different stuff about them. I just need a Microphone set up for vocals that would be heard over the drums and guitar in my basement.
