Cable Pop Filter Toyota Carina 2, jerks at low rpms!?
Its a lovely 1985 Toyota Carina 2, 1.6 Petrol Engine. 150k km carbureted engine.
It started jerking a couple of months ago, I changed the timing belt, then changed spark plugs, cables, petrol filter, distributor head and rotor etc But the problem persisted. I then cleaned up the carburetor (it was a nightmare), but the problem did not go away. I bought a used carburetor and changed it... no effect! ....! Changed ignition module.. useless! Now observed a new problem, that 4th gear pops out under heavy acceleration when engine is warm enough. Another thing! Car jerks only when its warm enough i.e. Gauge needle in the middle!
Now I am a little confused, if its the transmission problem that causes the car to stumble, in my personal opinion it should increase at higher rpms, but the car runs smooth at high rpms and even smoother at idle or when cold.

Shure sm57 for vocals?
I am in no way doubting the sm57's quality and sound, but I am wondering about the pop filter, or lack there of a decent pop filter, i have seen people use them live and it sounds fine, but i like to be close to the mic when i sing, so popping is an issue. The reason for which i ask is that my original plan is to get an SM58 to sing into, then once I get an electric guitar and amp, I would mic the amp with the SM57. But if the SM57 works fine for vocals with it's stock windscreen, then that is perfect bcause i have the chance to buy one off of craigslist for $85 with a cable and a short stand. If it matter now I play an acoustic guitar with a pickup installed.
Not sure how true it is, but I've read that the SM-57 & SM-58 are essentially the same inside, and the differences are exterior.

You are using "lower weight" as an argument?! No wonder you are losing! Changing brake routing shuold never be done to "save weight".
Yes, you'll save a bit of weight but the change will NOT improve overall performance. It WILL improve braking performance but you will lose the ability to spin the bars.
Repairs are also much easier and much less expensive.

I need one for my long time exposures on mechanical film cameras. I'm looking for one that will hold up for a LONG time, doesn't cost a ton of money, and is relatively long, say around 100 cm or about three feet. Mic Cables Clips Laptop troubleshoot please help...?
i have a advent laptop; which i was quite happily using; until i was testing my webcam mic; with a friend on msn; when i clicked to play the clip i had just recorded; the laptop screen just froze and wouldnt move; i pressed the boot up button and rebooted the whole thing; only to find that; i can only hear the fan; and nothing happens on the screen and the wireless, button that usually lights up; was just dim, i unplugged everything including the webcam and even the power souce cable; but the problem still remains; what do you think may have caused this; and what should i do to fix the problem; thanks x
From your description it sounds like the motherboard may have failed. It is probably coincidence that you were testing the web cam, the laptop would probably have failed anyway. How can I record my own movie sound clips?
I'm trying to record sound clips from movies.
I'm using my laptop and a ps3 and running the audio cables from the audio out on the tv into the mic input on my laptop using .25inch and .8inch adapter.
And i'm using windows sound recorder to record it.
But it's not working. I've done it before, a few years ago, but not sure what i'm doing different.
Should I run it through the output on a dvd player maybe?
Also using windows vista what recording settings should I have on? The input devices or the mic's or what?

Types Of Microphones And Their Uses
The main thing behind the working of a microphone is the diaphragm. The whole technology of the microphone depends on the diaphragm because it is the only thing that captures the sound waves to create the signal. So, whatever the technology is, the functioning of the microphone is in the same way. But of course, the uses differ for different technology as every microphone has its own usage.
Technically speaking, there are five types of microphones commonly used for various purposes. Starting with the latest one, there is the wireless microphone that is very popular nowadays. They are widely used for recording and broadcasting sounds. These microphones are portable and can be connected to camera, recorder, or speaker without the cable. In this system, there are three components that work together to create and transmit a signal to the place where it is recorded and amplified.
First, there is the actual microphone which is a tiny clip fixed around the ear or in the lapel. Next is the transmitter that converts the audio signal to a signal either in the FM, VHF, or UHF bands of the radio spectrum. The last component is the antennae, which broadcasts the produced signal to a short distance. These microphones are used in different kinds of shows like television shows, stage shows or shows by bands.
The other types of microphones are as follows:
Dynamic microphones: These work with the help of electromagnetic induction. There is a magnet that induces current to flow in the wire. When the diaphragm vibrates due to sound waves , the magnet gets moved and this movement creates a small current. As the dynamic microphones are strong and resistant to moisture, they are mainly used in the stage performance by the singers or the bands.
Condenser microphones: These are also called capacitors as the diaphragm acts as one plate of a capacitor and the vibrations produce changes in the distance between the plates. And these changes are amplified to create a measurable signal. However, the condenser microphones require a small battery to provide a voltage across the capacitor. As they are capable of producing high quality sound, they are used in the laboratory and studio recordings.
Ribbon microphones: These microphones run with the help of a metal ribbon that is suspended in a magnetic field and is connected electrically to the microphone. This ribbon is moved by the sound waves that change the current flowing through it and thus electric signal is generated. The ribbon microphones are used mainly for the cymbals in drums.
Crystal microphones: In these microphones, a crystal is attached to the diaphragm that creates the signal when the diaphragm gets vibrated by the sound waves. Actually, it uses the phenomenon of piezoelectricity. It means that there are some materials like crystals that produce a voltage when subjected to pressure, to convert vibrations into electrical signals. However, crystal microphones are used with vacuum tube equipments like the domestic tape recorders. They are even used as contact microphones to amplify sound from acoustic musical instruments.
Carbon microphones: These microphones were used in telephones in the past. They basically use carbon dust that has a thin metal diaphragm on one side. And when the sound waves hit the diaphragm they compress the carbon dust that changes its resistance. This changing resistance changes the amount of current that passes through.
